Bio:

JP Schmetz founded Cliqz in Munich in 2008. Its search engine was sold to Brave Software in 2021, and is now available to all as Brave Search, the default search engine in the Brave privacy browser. Globally, Brave Search serves nearly 25 million queries per day, and close to 10 billion queries annually. JP has a long history with search engines and search advertising systems, including in the 1990s with Inktomi (which became Yahoo Search) and the early beginnings of Google Adsense. He’s also the Chairman of Coc Coc, a successful search engine and browser Company in Vietnam, and the Chief Scientist at Hubert Burda Media, a global media company. Jean-Paul earned a B.A. in Economics and M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Louvain (Belgium), and an M.S. in Computer Sciences from Stanford University.
